The TPD@Scale Coalition for the Global South is a collaborative effort of ministries of education and other government agencies; international organizations; development agencies; non-governmental organizations; universities, education colleges, and training institutions; research and policy centers; private corporations; and other education and technology stakeholders who are engaged in teacher professional development (TPD). The Coalition aims to contribute to the attainment of Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 4\u2014ensure inclusive and quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all\u2014by promoting quality, equitable, and sustainable large-scale, ICT-mediated TPD through collaboration, research, and implementation support.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

Coalition Secretariat\u00a0<\/strong><\/h4>

The Foundation for Information Technology Education and Development (FIT-ED)<\/a><\/strong> is the acting Secretariat of the Coalition. Funding for the Secretariat is provided by the International Development Research Centre (IDRC)<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Inception<\/b>
<\/span><\/h4>

The Coalition was initiated by\u00a0Digital Learning for Development (DL4D)<\/b><\/a>, a global research network that aims to improve educational systems in developing countries through expanding understanding about digital learning, fostering collaboration on research, testing digital learning innovations, and scaling proven ones. DL4D is jointly funded by the\u00a0International Development Research Centre (IDRC) of Canada<\/b><\/a>\u00a0and the\u00a0Department for International Development (DFID)<\/b><\/a>\u00a0of the United Kingdom, and administered by the\u00a0Foundation for Information Technology Education and Development (FIT-ED)<\/b><\/a>\u00a0of the Philippines.<\/p>

The idea of forming a coalition was informed by work commissioned by DL4D,\u00a0Learning at Scale for the Global South<\/b><\/i><\/a>, which examines the potential of online learning to broaden access to quality education and training, considers the barriers that still exist in the Global South to realizing this potential, and proposes an action agenda for, among others, TPD@Scale.<\/p>

In January 2018, the Coalition held an inception meeting at The Education University of Hong Kong attended by 31 international, regional, and national organizations:<\/p>
