A meta-analysis of online learning, blended learning, the flipped classroom and classroom instruction for pre-service and in-service teachers

Overview

As part of the creation of a knowledge base for TPD@Scale under the “Supporting TPD@Scale”, this study was carried out with the aid of a grant from the International Development Research Centre (IDRC), Ottawa, Canada.

In this meta-analysis of online learning, blended learning, flipped classroom and classroom instruction for pre-service and in-service teachers, Schmid et.al. looked into two populations of learners/teachers – (1) Pre-service teacher students and Pre-service teacher students (i.e., formal education for teaching certification) and (2) In-service teachers (i.e., engaged in professional development) – and their use of internet-based instructional applications.

The study has been recently published in the Volume 5 (in-progress) of Computers and Education by Science Direct.
