Butig District holds inception workshop for their education Networked Improvement Communities

Last March 4, 2021, over fifty education leaders, teachers, and community leaders and representatives from the Butig District of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region of Muslim Mindanao came together for the workshop, “Philippines Pilot: Building School Leaders’ Resilience while continuing Basic Education Delivery”. This is the inception event for the IDRC-funded project, Strengthening School Leadership Towards Improving School Resiliency: An Improvement Science Approach, in the Philippines.

Organized by the Coalition Secretariat (FIT-ED), the workshop aimed to familiarize the participants with the objectives and methodology of the project, including building Networked Improvement Communities and using improvement cycles for problem solving, to build on the tools for the project, and to plan on next steps. The project will support and learn from the district as they continue basic education delivery.

“We hope that this project would be able to transform the lives of our students by helping principals become better education leaders, able to work with the community to address problems and continue to improve education delivery despite all challenges ,” shared Waisah Sumander Arsad, CESE, Education Program Supervisor of DepEd Lanao del Sur Division II, on sharing their standpoint on the ground to the families of the students and the rest of the community.

The workshop was held in Iligan City, with on-site facilitators from the Department of Education from Butig, and off-site facilitators from the TPD@Scale Coalition connecting by Zoom.
