The Open University School of Education, Childhood, Youth and Sport

The Open University (OU), the world’s first successful open and distance teaching university, was established in 1969 to promote social justice by making education accessible to all. It is the UK’s largest university, with over 170,000 students.

The OU began its global development activity in 1992 and established its International Development Office (IDO) in 2010. IDO delivers quality, scalable and context-appropriate development programs which seek to harness the OU’s unique expertise to address the Sustainable Development Goals, working in partnership with local and international organizations. IDO now manages 16 programs across Sub-Saharan Africa and Asia, many of which focus on TPD at scale.
